How to play

Build the cricket league your group wants

Three choices shape the way your league plays. Choose how squads are built, how the champion is decided and how performances score. Skippr handles the season around those choices.

Step 1 of 3

How will squads be built?

This is the main event before the season begins. Compare the three ways managers can build their teams; each rewards a different kind of preparation.

Auction

Managers nominate players and bid from a fixed purse in a shared live room.

  • The highest valid bid signs the player.
  • The currency determines the purse and bidding rules; the league sets its ownership-copy limit.
  • One manager can never own the same player twice.
Good forLive rivalry and flexible squad strategy

Draft

Managers take turns selecting players. In a snake draft, the pick order reverses every round.

  • The commissioner schedules the start and pick clock.
  • Personal queues and autopick keep the room moving.
  • Commissioner controls cover pauses and exceptional picks.
Good forStructured turns and tactical queues

Salary Cap

Every player has a price and each manager builds a legal squad within the same budget.

  • Popular players can appear in more than one squad.
  • Role and real-team limits still apply.
  • Prices can move between gameweeks where configured.
Good forFamiliar, flexible team building

Step 2 of 3

How will the champion be decided?

Squad building and standings are separate choices. An auction league, for example, can use either weekly rivalry or one running leaderboard.

Head-to-Head

Skippr creates weekly fixtures. Beat your opponent's fantasy score to earn the win and climb the table.

  • Wins and draws award table points.
  • Fixture cycles stay balanced as gameweeks allow.
  • Odd-sized leagues receive balanced byes.
Good forWeekly rivalries and fixture drama

Total Points

There are no weekly opponents. Every completed gameweek score adds to one season-long leaderboard.

  • The highest cumulative fantasy score wins.
  • Every gameweek matters equally.
  • Exact ties share the same rank.
Good forRewarding consistency across the whole season

Step 3 of 3

How should performances score?

Both systems reward the same core cricket actions. Choose Skippr's match-aware system or fixed published bands.

Skippr Dynamic

Strike-rate and economy adjustments respond to the match being played, judging efficiency in context.

  • A performance is compared with its match situation.
  • The rewards adapt when conditions or scoring rates change.
  • This is Skippr's recommended default.
Good forStrategy that reacts to how each match unfolds

Skippr Classic

Strike-rate and economy adjustments use fixed, published workload and performance bands.

  • Thresholds are known before every match.
  • Longer innings and spells use their own workload tiers.
  • The calculation is straightforward to follow live.
Good forStraightforward scoring with fixed thresholds

One innings, two methods

A batter makes 60 from 30 balls

That is a strike rate of 200. The core run and boundary points are identical; only the efficiency adjustment differs.

Dynamic

Skippr compares 200 SR with the pace of that innings and match, so its value changes with the conditions.

Classic

The published 25+ balls and 200+ SR band awards a fixed +70 efficiency points.

Your league's Rules page always shows the exact scoring system and thresholds in use.

Make a tactical call

What are Skippr Picks?

Skippr Picks are tactical plays you attach to eligible starters before the gameweek locks. Each has a published outcome or effect, plus any reward and risk.

They are not extra players or transfers.

Think of them as a chance to back a particular kind of performance—such as an explosive innings or a controlled bowling spell—or use another enabled lineup effect.

1

Choose a pick

Select from the options enabled for your league.

2

Back a starter

Assign it to an eligible player in your starting lineup before lock.

3

Follow the outcome

Skippr applies its published effect; outcome-based picks may reward success or penalise failure.

Each league's preset or setup determines which picks are available and their usage limits. Exact conditions, rewards and penalties appear on the league's Rules page.

Can a league start after the competition begins?

Yes, where staff have enabled later starting gameweeks. The creation wizard shows the first match and lock deadline for each available start.

Can two managers own the same player?

Salary-cap leagues allow overlapping ownership. Auction and Draft leagues use the player-copy setting chosen for that league, while one manager can never own the same player twice.

When do lineups lock?

The league's gameweek schedule defines the lock. The relevant time is shown in Skippr using your profile timezone wherever possible.

Can the commissioner change the rules during a season?

Core creation choices are snapshotted when the league is created so the season and its history remain consistent. Exceptional commissioner actions are restricted and audited.

What happens if someone disconnects during a live draft?

The draft state is saved after every action. If a manager misses the pick clock, Skippr can use their queue and then an eligible autopick so the room continues safely.
